Universiti Selangor (UNISEL)

The University of Selangor (UNISEL) is a private university located in Selangor, Malaysia. It is wholly owned and managed by the Selangor state government independently and does not receive funding from the Malaysian federal government, making it a private university. UNISEL operates two campuses, the Bestari Jaya Campus, and the Shah Alam Campus.

UNISEL was established on August 23, 1999, as the first state-funded semi-government university in Malaysia. Its primary objective is to provide tertiary education, research and development opportunities in industrial technology, management, information and communications technology. The university began operations from a temporary campus in Shah Alam and completed its main campus in Bestari Jaya in 2005. UNISEL is now based at the Shah Alam and Bestari Jaya campuses.

The university is owned and managed by the State Government of Selangor through Pendidikan Industri YS Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of the state-owned investment arm, Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad, and established under the provisions of the Private Higher Education Institutions Act 1996. It is one of two higher education institutions owned by the state government via PIYS, the other being INPENS International College.

The main campus in Bestari Jaya spans 1,000 acres and is part of a 4,000-acre piece of land designated as the Selangor Educational Park. It houses the faculties of Education and Social Sciences, Engineering and Life Sciences, Communication, Visual Art, and Computing, and the Centre for Foundation and General Studies. The Shah Alam campus is located in Section 7 of the city and is the location of the faculties of Business and Accountancy and Health Sciences.

UNISEL has had six vice-chancellors since its establishment, with the current one being Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Redzuan Othman. The university has also had two chancellors, with the current one being Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ashad Alhaj Bin Raja Tun Uda Alhaj.
