Sunway University
Sunway University is a private university located in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Established in 2004 as Sunway University College, it was upgraded to a full university status by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education in January 2011. The university’s 10-hectare campus is situated adjacent to the Sunway Lagoon theme park and comprises academic and residential blocks.
Sunway University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes taught in English through its seven schools: Sunway University Business School, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Arts, School of Mathematical Sciences, School of Hospitality and Service Management, School of Medical and Life Sciences, and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. The university also has research centers and institutes across various fields of studies, such as the Jeffrey Sachs Center for Sustainable Development and the Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia.
The School of Business is the largest school in the university, offering a range of academic programmes, including a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance, which is its largest academic programme by student enrolment. The School of Science and Technology provides a diploma in information technology, a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and master’s degrees in computer science, information technology, life sciences, and psychology. The School of Arts offers degrees in communication, digital film production, contemporary music, music performance, interior architecture, and design communication. The School of Mathematical Sciences provides a Bachelor of Science degree in actuarial studies and industrial statistics and a master’s programme in actuarial science. The School of Healthcare and Medical Sciences offers a diploma in nursing, while the School of Hospitality provides diplomas in culinary arts, events management, and hotel management.
Sunway University’s academic programmes have attained accreditation and are compliant with Malaysia’s framework for higher education qualifications, programme standards, and quality systems. The university has been rated Tier 5 “excellent” three times in a row by the Malaysia Rating System for University and University College Excellence (SETARA) of the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Additionally, Sunway University is rated internationally as a 5-star university overall by the university rating and ranking organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), with 5-star ratings for teaching, employability, facilities, social responsibility, and inclusiveness.
